Leona Clare  Eggers (Killian)
Cuba City, Wisconsin

Leona C. Eggers, 92, of Cuba City, Wisconsin, died Monday, May 21, 2018, at Manor Care Health Service in Dubuque. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 25, 2018, at St. Rose of Lima Church in Cuba City with Rev. David Flanagan officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery following the service. Friends may call from 3:00 - 6:00 p.m. Thursday, May 24, 2018, at Casey Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Cuba City where a parish scripture wake service will take place at 2:45 p.m. Friends may also call 9:00-10:15 a.m. Friday at the church before the service.

Leona was born on June 28, 1925, in Pierce County, Wisconsin, the daughter of Raymond and Clara (Hrdina) Killian. She attended St. Mary’s Grade School in Pierce County and Prescott High School, graduating in 1943. She married Dwight E. Eggers in Mineral Wells, Texas, on November 9, 1945, before he was shipped overseas during World War II. He preceded her in death on March 30, 2010.

After high school Leona worked at the Soldier’s Uniform Factory in River Falls, Wisconsin. After her marriage to Dwight, she stayed at home with her children. Later she worked in the office at Jacques Seed Company in Prescott. In 1960, Leona and Dwight moved to Cuba City, where she continued working at the Cuba City Jacques Plant until her retirement.

Leona was a charter member of the Cuba City Lioness Club and a member of St. Rose of Lima Parish.

Her hobbies included crafts, baking and cooking. She enjoyed shopping and spending time with her grandchildren. She was known as “hot dish grandma” and “cereal grandma.”

Survivors include her children, Diane (Dick) Gile, of Hazel Green, Dwight Jr. "Peanuts" (Donna) Eggers, of Cuba City, and Kim (Mary Jo) Eggers, of Marshall, Wisconsin; a brother, Norman (Donna) Killian, of Prescott; fourteen grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; a son, Randy Eggers; a grandson, Joshua Eggers; and a sister, Joan (Lewis) Thom.

A Leona C. Eggers Memorial Fund has been established.
